Most Shopping accounts are switched on, then left to Google.

Shopping ads have no keywords. Google reads your product feed and decides which searches each product appears for. If the feed is thin, out of date or full of errors, the campaign is handicapped before a dollar is spent.

Performance Max adds more automation on top. It will spend whatever you give it across Search, Display, YouTube and Gmail. Without accurate revenue tracking and a clear return target, it chases the easiest sales, not the most profitable ones.

The result is familiar: clicks arrive, budget goes out and return on ad spend sits flat. We set out the common causes in why your eCommerce PPC is not profitable.

The feed, the tracking and the target decide the result. The campaign settings come after.

Everything a Shopping account needs to pay its way.

Shopping and Performance Max, run by the same team as the rest of your paid media ↗

Product feed and Merchant Center

Titles, descriptions, images, categories, pricing and stock checked and fixed. The feed decides which searches your products can show for.

  • Google

Campaign structure

Standard Shopping, Performance Max or both, split by margin, category and best sellers so budget goes where the profit is.

  • Google Ads

Conversion and revenue tracking

Purchases and order values tracked correctly before we set targets. Automated bidding only works if it is told what a sale is worth.

Bidding to a return target

Return on ad spend targets set from your margins, not picked from a default. Reviewed as costs, prices and stock change.

Search terms and wasted spend

Regular checks on what your products actually appeared for. Irrelevant searches blocked, and low-margin products pulled back or excluded.

Reporting on revenue

Reports on revenue, return on ad spend and cost per sale by product group. Not impressions and clicks on their own.

Fix the feed and the tracking. Then scale.

We get the inputs right before we ask for more budget. Shopping rewards the store that gives Google better data.

  6. 06

    Scale

Add budget to the products and categories that return it. Hold back the ones that do not.

Shopping is one part of how an online store grows.

Shopping ads reach people who already know what they want to buy. That makes them the first paid channel most stores should get right. They are rarely the whole plan.

Search campaigns cover your brand and category terms. See Google Ads management. Organic rankings for category and product pages bring in sales you do not pay for per click, which is the job of eCommerce SEO. Our eCommerce digital marketing service brings the channels together under one plan.

For Kite Power, Shopping ran alongside dynamic search ads across every brand and category the store stocks, with a price-based bidding strategy. Return on ad spend rose 19% and cost per conversion fell 45%.

From an online store we run Google Ads for.

“Mark, Jessica and the team at One Egg have been fantastic to work with. The results from the Google Adwords campaigns have been impressive, exceeding the ROI goal we were aiming for. They are attentive, fast, give very detailed reports, and are across all of the different PPC strategies. Highly recommend them to anyone looking to outsource PPC campaigns.”

Google Shopping questions, answered.

If yours isn't here, ask us on the call.

Standard Shopping shows your product ads in Google Shopping results and gives you more direct control over bids and search terms. Performance Max uses your feed and creative to run ads across Google Search, Display, YouTube and Gmail, with Google making most of the delivery decisions. Many stores use both. Which one leads depends on your range, your margins and how much conversion data the account has.

Are your Shopping ads making a profit?

Whether you run Shopping and Performance Max in-house or with another agency, we will give you a clear, honest picture of what is working and what is wasting money.
